This berry, related to the famous Séchuan (also sometimes spelled Sichuan, Szechuan), is not a pepper, botanically speaking. It is a wild berry native to Indonesia, north of the island of Sumatra. It is found in many countries ranging from northern India to southern China.
This berry is also called "pepper" of the Bataks.
